Um okay so as you may know every 3rd Thursday at the Brasstap here in Williamsburg, instead of open mic we have a showcase of 3 up and coming, already been running, or just feel like funning – artists! And they have all been so so good, but the planets lined up just right cuz this is the coming together of 3 of my FAVORITE musical acts in the 60 mile radius around me, spanning from Charles city to Newport News, and they all just happen to be fantastic duos and the vibe just clicked, we have:
7-7:50pm- Eli&Aubrey (sometimes I say Aubrey & Eli and I just love them yall) an unstoppable duo who you probably have heard and seen about town or around Hampton roads, singing the loveliest harmonies, making us jealous of their love , they perform beautiful and haunting folky versions of songs you know, and also originals that feel familiar in that nostalgic way, and also Aubrey and Eli are just really really fun to hang out with, I’m grateful to have met them over the years at different open mics and this year they have been a staple in the burg at Wyatt Baldwins open mic at the corner pocket
8-8:50- Future Ghosts (A folk punk, toe tapping, emotionally moving, and relatable duo who play music to just live your life to) , I was lucky enough to meet these lovely humans at a gig in Charles city, and I played am Against Me! song, and they were immediately my new friends as well as the only people who knew the song / maybe it was for the best lol- featuring Clay Davis – guitar/vox – and Elizabeth (Liz) Rae- French horn/vox
9-fin.- Teacup Sallies. I’m not sure I need to say anything else, besides order the drink named after them. Coy Mozingo and Kate Gruber make up this ridiculously original and creative duo, I can’t really describe the experience of these guys because you have to follow their pages- let’s just say you will get really obsessed with these damn rabbit detectives. Shit these two just really are good at everything, including music so let’s just fucking have this event already I talked enough.

Runnin’ Shine is a hot country act with its members hailing from Virginia by way of Alabama, New York, and New Hampshire. Playing together since February of 2015, Runnin’ Shine is a tight, four-piece comprised of Janice Chandler on vocals and acoustic guitar, Richie Bohr on lead electric guitar, Bill Snow on drums, and Jim Cahoon on the bass.
Brought together by really good luck and a few mutual friends, each player gives a unique energy and experience to the band. Their high-energy rockin’ country show has named them Veer Magazine 2019, 2021 and 2022 Country Artist of the Year, and their clever original song, “The D” was chosen as a Finalist in the Great American Song Writing contest.
They play songs from many genres all mashed up into their country songs just to keep you on your toes. With perfectly blended 3-part harmonies and a sassy, rock and roll swagger, Runnin’ Shine will bring a party you won’t soon forget.
Runnin’ Shine’s first full-length album “So There We Were,” shared insight into (mostly) true stories that the band members and their friends have experienced. From a few crazy nights on the town where there was way too much tequila involved, all the way to a car wreck in the Taco Bell drive thru, the songs written by Janice Chandler let the listener directly into her heart which is filled with tenderness and rage. The straightforward lyrics that tell you exactly how it is, just the way country music should; through the stories we have lived. Their single, “Shotgun,” which was released in 2019 to country radio made top 40 on the Country Music Row chart, and their song released in 2020, “The Way You Need Me” reached 43.
Runnin’ Shine’s resume includes opening for Lanco, Parmelee, Billy Ray Cyrus, Michael Ray, Radio Romance, Colt Ford, and Jimmie Allen. They have also played at the VIP lounge at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater at Virginia Beach for Country Superstars such as Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Combs, Brantley Gilbert, Luke Bryan, and many others. Runnin’ Shine has headlined at festivals such as the Chesapeake Jubilee and the Knotts Island Peach Festival.
With an ever-evolving set list, and Music Row charted original music, Runnin’ Shine is well-known for their professionalism as well as their ability to ensure each show is unique to fit the audience it serves. The release of their sophomore album, “Nowhere to Go” has proven that Runnin’ Shine is a force to be reckoned with. Winning the Josie Music Award for best music video for a group for their song, The Way You Need Me, Runnin’ Shine is making a name for themselves in Nashville, and beyond!

The Virginia Beer Company will host a series of Singer, Songwriter Storytellers performances in collaboration with Kudlz Entertainment. Original music will be showcased over several weeks and you can get to hear some of the stories behind the songs.
April 21st, Nathan Lienard continues the series. Nathan is an example of how business acumen and musical talent should be combined to find success in any music market. A singer/songwriter from Williamsburg, he has grown an expertly cultivated career across the Hampton Roads area, establishing a well-deserved title of local favorite, playing for local breweries, wineries, & restaurants. His latest EP, Livin’ Check To Check is a six track glimpse into the very soul of this family man and performer. Seek out his music online (@nathanlienardmusic) and know that when you hear his originals, you’ll be raising your glass to this local favorite as well! Don’t miss an opportunity to get to know him a little better at this show. Williamsburg has always created a place where original music is celebrated and appreciated and we look forward to bringing some amazing artists to you during this series.
More details to come about food trucks, hours, & information from the brewery but I hope you join us and enjoy celebrating live, original music.

Headwaters Down: TIDAL RIVER is a feature-length documentary that follows five friends as they attempt to finish a multi-year project: documenting Virginia’s James River, one of the most consequential waterways in North American history.
The voyage begins in Richmond, Virginia and continues for 110 miles to the Chesapeake Bay, with the film crew using sea kayaks to explore the tidal waters of the James. While new insights lie around every bend, the project meditates on several key markers along the river as the crew experience them in real time: the site of the Kepone Chemical Disaster, among the worst environmental tragedies in American history; the Battle at Fort Pocahontas, one of many underrepresented battles of the USCT during the Civil War; the gravely threatened Bald Cypress forests; and Jamestown Island, where complex histories are still being uncovered as climate change and sea level rise are already washing them away. As the group encounters various struggles on their journey, they are reminded of the river’s profound presence and its patient march through time.
Headwaters Down is a production company based in Richmond, VA. Founded by friends and colleagues Justin Black, Will Gemma and Dietrich Teschner. The Headwaters Down team is dedicated to creating impactful cinema, fostering community partnerships, and championing the power of visual narratives.

Colby T. Helms & the Virginia Creepers on May 11, 2024
7709 Flat Iron Road, Gloucester, VA, United States, Virginia 23061
Colby T. Helms & the Virginia Creepers are performing In Gloucester, VA on Saturday, May 11th. Doors open at 5:30pm and the band starts at 6:30pm.
At the bottom of the Southwest Virginia foothills half-a-mile from the nearest neighbor, 21-year-old Colby T. Helms resides in an “underground house” built by his late father on land his family has owned for generations. Colby first dreamed of making music his life at age 12, when a group of Blue Ridge Mountain old-time and bluegrass players performed songs like The Ozark Mountain Daredevils’ “Standing On The Rock” and the gospel classic “A Beautiful Life” at his father’s funeral in Boones Mill, VA.
To make his dream a reality, he taught himself guitar, banjo, and mandolin by watching local performers and YouTube videos. On the day he turned 16, he bought his first car, a stick-shift Jeep Wrangler, and hit the road to play anywhere people would have him. A veteran performer in the Blue Ridge/Appalachian Mountains region by age 18, Colby wrote the songs that would become his upcoming semi-autobiographical concept album, ‘Tales of Misfortune’, as a senior in high school. The album delves into the beginning of his story – starting off as a dream and ending with the passing and remembrance of his father.
“Higher Ground” is about the choices he has made to realize his dream of becoming a touring musician – and their cost. “Mountain Brandy” brings the listener back to Colby’s home at the bottom of the Blue Ridge Mountains and sets the tone for the rest of the album. “Smoke and Flames” chronicles his experience as a fledgling musician, honing his craft and searching for validation while still in high school. Album closer Daddy’s Pocket Knife cuts the deepest. A true story that also serves as a metaphor for Colby’s own artistic journey, it reminds us that some things lost can be found.
Colby T. Helms will release his debut album on Photo Finish Records in January 2024. He is managed by Dolphus Ramseur and booked by Paul Lohr and John Everhart of New Frontier Touring.

Thursday Night Live with MaKenzie Roark
901 Capital Landing Road, Williamsburg, VA, United States, Virginia 23185
Join us Thursday for an evening of live music with up and coming Virginia based artist MaKenzie Roark. Drawing inspiration from classic country, 70’s folk, and good ol’ fashioned rock and roll, she crafts poignantly introspective and authentic songs that highlight a deep fluency in the reflection on everyday life. Her lyrically rich storytelling is heavily inspired by the likes of Townes and Loretta, but is coupled with that punch-in-the-gut girl power energy, drawn from artists like Shania Twain and Sheryl Crow. Her debut album, “Rollin’ High, Feelin’ Low” came out in 2022 via Vocal Rest Records.
Thirsty Thursday Happy Hour specials available from 4:00 to 7:00 PM: $8 featured cocktails and 20 percent off food items. Sip a whisky flight or craft cocktail and listen to some great live music.

Get to know the band!
Since first forming The Nick Moss Band Featuring Dennis Gruenling in 2016, master blues guitarist Nick Moss and world class harmonica virtuoso Dennis Gruenling have become torchbearers for traditional electric blues. But rather than repeating what’s come before, the band’s high-energy take on old school Chicago, Texas and West Coast sounds is completely their own. With their new Alligator Records album (their third for the label), Get Your Back Into It!, Chicago native Moss and New Jersey native Gruenling—together with Rodrigo Mantovani on bass, Taylor Streiff on keyboards and Pierce Downer on drums—deliver a deeply rooted, timeless blue collar blues album.
AllMusic says the band, winners of the 2020 Blues Music Award for Blues Band Of The Year, “makes the case for the vitality of old-fashioned Chicago electric blues in the 21st century.” They are among the world’s very best old school blues ensembles, with each musician expertly playing off the others. “We are a rare breed as far as how authentic we like to keep the music,” says Moss. The guitarist proudly represents the city of Chicago as one of the few bluesmen working today to have learned his craft firsthand, directly from many of the genre’s original creators.
Get Your Back Into It! was produced by Moss and Mantovani and contains fourteen original songs: twelve by Moss and two by Gruenling. Guests include saxophonist “Sax” Gordon Beadle and, on Out Of The Woods, organist “Brother” John Kattke. The album is inspired by the electrifying blues sounds of 1940s through 1960s, and is performed with taste, restraint, sly humor and pure joy. The stylistically distinct songs—including three wild instrumentals that simply dare you to stay seated—are all connected by Moss’ and Gruenling’s shared musical vision. “We like to push ourselves out of our comfort zone,” Moss says of the songs and performances on the new album, “and I feel like we accomplished that.”
From the life lessons espoused in The Bait In The Snare, Losing Ground and Choose Wisely to the hard blues of Aurelie and Living In Heartache to the lighthearted ode to the band’s Brazilian bass player, It Shocks Me Out, Moss makes clear, in addition to his unparalleled guitar work and soulful singing voice, he is also an award-winning songwriter with the rare Willie Dixon-like ability to write and sing the blues’ honest truth.
Authenticity has never been a problem for Moss, who first made a name for himself playing bass for bluesman Jimmy “Fast Fingers” Dawkins. Dawkins encouraged Nick to unleash his fire and passion. From there, Moss was chosen by Willie “Big Eyes” Smith to join his Legendary Blues Band, but Smith insisted Moss switch to guitar. Blues icon Jimmy Rogers (whose best known songs included Walking By Myself and Ludella) hired Moss as his touring guitarist, mentoring him on the blues lifestyle along the way. Today, Moss’ blistering fretwork, impassioned, soul-charged vocals and memorable original songs place him in a league of his own.
Growing up in Chicago and standing tall at 6’2”, the teenage Moss dreamed of playing both music and sports. His mother was a huge blues fan, even taking a young Nick to see Muddy Waters live in concert. At 18, sudden emergency kidney surgery sidelined his athletic hopes and left the youngster feeling blue. To lift his spirits, Nick’s brother snuck him out of the hospital to see Alligator artists Little Charlie & The Nightcats perform. Nick was blown away by the show and by meeting the band, and it was then and there that he decided on a career as a bluesman. After his years working with and learning from true blues royalty, Nick formed his first band in 1997 and released his debut album a year later on his own independent Blue Bella label. Since then, he’s earned legions of fans, playing over 100 shows a year. Moss has shared stages with Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Gary Clark, Jr., David Hidalgo and many others, and is an in-demand guest, always welcome to sit in with his musician friends around the world. He and the band have crisscrossed the United States and Canada multiple times, and have performed in the UK, Norway, Belgium, France, Spain, Latvia, Poland and other European countries.
Dennis Gruenling, Moss’ friend of over 20 years, is considered among today’s most innovative and creative blues harmonica players. His high-energy, full-throttle reed work has earned him comparisons to many of the greats, including the late James Cotton. As a teen, he heard the Alligator recording Harp Attack! (a summit meeting of Cotton, Junior Wells, Carey Bell and Billy Branch) and decided that blues harmonica was his life’s calling. In addition to Cotton, Gruenling was inspired by blues harp masters Little Walter and George “Harmonica” Smith as well as by saxophonists, including Lester Young and Red Prysock. A self-taught player and a natural entertainer with seven solo albums and numerous guest appearances to his credit, Gruenling’s giant, fat-toned harp work, raw-boned singing and untamed energy are a perfect foil for Moss’ inspired guitar playing and straight-from-the-shoulder blues vocals. Vintage Guitar says, “Gruenling’s harp, along with the Midwestern intensity of Moss’ blues guitar, is pure ecstasy.”
With the release of their Alligator Records debut, The High Cost Of Low Living, in 2018, The Nick Moss Band Featuring Dennis Gruenling announced their arrival, as fans and critics were amazed by the band’s dynamic sound. 2019’s Lucky Guy! took them even higher, as the album hit blues radio by storm, finishing Top 10 on the Living Blues Radio Chart’s Top 50 Albums of 2019. Internationally, the album peaked on blues charts at #1 in Australia, #3 in France and #7 in the UK. Songs from Lucky Guy! were also prominently featured on BBC2 in Britain and CBC in Canada. The title track became one of the most played songs on SiriusXM’s Bluesville. Additionally, Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour invited the band to perform live on its nationally syndicated public radio broadcast.
Moss, Gruenling and the band have received a total of five Blues Music Awards, with wins in 2020 for Band Of The Year, Song Of The Year (Lucky Guy) and Traditional Blues Album Of The Year (Lucky Guy!), and in 2019 for Traditional Blues Male Artist (Moss) and Instrumentalist—Harmonica (Gruenling). Blues Music Magazine says, “Nick Moss is a major force in contemporary blues. Dennis Gruenling plays soaring harp…infectious and finger-snappin’.”
Now, with Get Your Back Into It! and upcoming North American and European tours in the works, The Nick Moss Band Featuring Dennis Gruenling will bring their brash and exciting blues to old fans and new. Performing at clubs, concert halls and on festival stages across the country and around the world, the band ignites an irresistible musical firestorm onstage. “When we get together, the music takes over,” says Moss. “We can’t hold back, and the energy just comes pouring out. We get carried away and the audience gets carried away with us.”

For more than six decades, The Beach Boys’ music has been an indelible part of American history. Their brilliant harmonies conveyed simple truths through sophisticated, pioneering musical arrangements. The Beach Boys transcended their music and have come to represent Californian culture. They provided fans around the world with a passport to experience love, youthful exuberance, and surf culture. Founded in Hawthorne, California in 1961, The Beach Boys were originally comprised of the three teenaged Wilson brothers: Brian, Carl, and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and school friend Al Jardine. The Beach Boys signed with Capitol Records in July 1962 and released their first album, Surfin’ Safari, that same year.
The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, with over 100 million records sold worldwide. Between the 1960s and today, the group had over 80 songs chart worldwide, 36 of them in the US Top 40 (the most by a US rock band), and four topping the Billboard Hot 100. Their influence on other artists spans musical genres and movements. Countless artists have cited Pet Sounds as their inspiration for creating their own musical masterpieces. Rolling Stone ranked Pet Sounds No. 2 on its list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” and The Beach Boys No. 12 on its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.”
Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and recipients of The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award®, The Beach Boys are a beloved American institution that remains iconic around the world.
The Beach Boys are led by lead singer and critically acclaimed chief lyricist Mike Love, who, along with longtime member Bruce Johnston, musical director Brian Eichenberger, Christian Love, Tim Bonhomme, Jon Bolton, Keith Hubacher, Randy Leago and John Wedemeyer continue the legacy of the iconic band.

Get to know the band!
The iconic band lead by world-renowned guitarist Randy Jacobs of Was (Not Was). The Boneshakers and members have toured and recorded with Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Seal, Keb Mo, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Mindi Abair, Bootsy Collins, Tears 4 Fears, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Iggy Pop…just to name a few. STORIED CAREER Flashback to 1980 — During his maiden session for Don and David Was, Randy Jacobs meets Sweetpea Atkinson on a cold night in the Motor City at Sound Suite Studio (the recording home of the fledgling band Was (Not Was). The connection was immediate and a bond was forged between the two artists. Their combined talents would help Was (Not Was) become a successful act during the 80’s and into the early 90’s cumulating with the worldwide hit “Walk The Dinosaur” co-written by Jacobs. After their European tour with Dire Straits in 1992, the Was Band went on hiatus and Randy started playing and recording with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, BB King, Seal, Paula Abdul, Kris Kristofferson, Ofra Haza, Tears For Fears, Warren Hill and others. Sweetpea was in Los Angeles adding background vocals to artists like Neil Diamond, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo, and Bob Segar. When Atkinson heard the Jacobs was putting together a new project, he jumped at the chance to be a part of it. It was Bonnie Raitt who inadvertently gave them their name “Boneshakers” while they were working on her “Longing In Our Hearts” CD. In 1996, the two were signed to Pointblank/Virgin Records and produced two CDs for the label: “Book Of Spells” (1997) which included Randy’s rockin’ swing arrangement of James Brown’s “Cold Sweat” and the powerful “Shake The Planet” (1998). Over the years, The Boneshakers released another four successful albums. Additionally, they joined forces with sax queen Mindi Abair and released Live in Seattle on Concord Records. Two more albums were credited to Mindi Abair and The Boneshakers: The EastWest Sessions (2017) and All I Got for Christmas Is the Blues (2018). In 2020, the band suffered an unimaginable loss with news of the passing of Sweetpea. THE LEGACY CONTINUES Now in 2022, as The Boneshakers celebrate the 25th anniversary of their first release, a new energy and excitement has emerged. Producer John Wooler, who originally signed The Boneshakers in 1997, connected Randy and the incredible Jenny Langer- a powerhouse singer who was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame (NYC and VA) at the age of 28 and won the 2020 Int’l Blues Challenge for Best SelfProduced Album. What started as a few tracks for her project quickly morphed in a new album with The Boneshakers featuring no-holds-barred funk, blues, and rock that marries the sounds and spirits of Detroit Rock City, Memphis, and Mussel Shoals. Produced by Wooler, it is back to the original vision of The Boneshakers’ fiery sound, with the vocal dynamo Jenny Langer behind the mic and original musicians from “The Book Of Spells” Sergio Gonzales (Drums), Nathan Brown (Bass), Jon Gilutin (Keys), The Texacali Horns (Joe Sublett, Mark Pender, and Randy’s former band mate from Was (Not Was) Sir Harry Bowens on vocals.

THE SWING AND THE SWAGGER…
It’s hard to nail an exact moment when Good Shot Judy came to life.
It could have been when brothers Brett and Jeff Cahoon stepped away from the success they’d achieved with their punk band Ten Years from Now and chose instead to see what they could do with the old-time jazz standards they’d admired for so long. The brothers Cahoon formed a small combo, and – wouldn’t you know it? – plenty of others felt the same groove.
Or maybe it was when an inside joke made a name for itself. Their mother, Judy Cahoon, is an avid golfer, and just as common as pars and birdies were three words of encouragement shouted by a supportive friend, who pumped a fist and hollered across the fairway every time she took a swing: “Good shot, Judy!” It became a funny family warble among the Cahoons – and as it turns out, a solid band name, too.
Or perhaps that moment of creation arrived when Good Shot Judy freed their potential energy. Keen to give the classic melodies the respect and attention – as well as the power – that it deserved, the Cahoons filled out Good Shot Judy with a full complement of horns, percussion and vocals. And magic happened: an ensemble that was bigger than the sum of its parts.
In a sense, Good Shot Judy was already in the stars long ago, during those formative decades from the 1930s on, when small jazz combos, big brass bands and the crooners who sang on top of them were forging an enduring style and repertoire that would be written into the DNA of American music.
But really, all these had a hand in making Good Shot Judy what is today: a big amp jazz band that sets stages aflame nationwide.
Audiences may never consider that the Good Shot Judy show they’re seeing has been an evolution. They’re too captivated by the sound and spectacle of music that reaches through the time. They’re too caught up in performance that has one foot dancing in the past and one in the here and now.
A Good Shot Judy show offers all those tunes you know just from growing up in American – songs you can at least hum along to, if you don’t outright know most of the words. But the music itself is only part of the band’s allure; there’s something electric in the execution, and it’s that vigor that carries the day as much as the pull of recognition.
So, yeah, there’s a history. And it’s a big one. Bigger than any one person. Bigger than any one band, for that matter. But Good Shot Judy is as close as it comes to an intersection between an era’s defining sound and the pleasure of enjoying it the way it was meant to be heard.

Soul / Blues / R&B / Americana
Over 25 years in the making, Jim Quick and Coastline, like their namesake the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, have been traveling the tracks of the southeast, and connecting with the hearts of loyal Coastline Crazies. Pulling from the threads of Soul, Blues, R&B, and Americana, Jim Quick and Coastline weave together their own genre of music known as Swamp Soul. Delivered with precision by front man Jim Quick and his band, this group captures the true, honest spirit of traditions born and bred in the small southern towns of America. These musicians, whose talents have landed them numerous awards in the industry, bring this indigenous music to life in the most genuine way possible. Quick explained it best when he said “I want my music to be a bridge for many genres; a place where traditional and contemporary music can unite. But, I do love the pure emotion and simple-yet-deep concepts of roots music. I’m a Southern boy and it all hits home; the lyrics and heart of the music, from the melodies to chord progressions, it all seems to strike an ancestral nerve with me.” The band currently maintains an average of 250 tour dates per year, with an ever-growing fan base that is as diverse as the music of the band itself
HIGHLIGHTS:- Perform over 250 dates per year- Recipient of multiple Carolina Music Awards- Carolina Music Awards, Entertainer of the Year (18x)
Performed and recorded with artists… Delbert McClinton, The Temptations, Montgomery Gentry, Jimmy Hall, Grayson Hugh and Paul Thorn
